How to Calculate Your UNIOSUN Admission Screening Score

Admission into UNIOSUN is quite easy when you have a good score and you know the course to use it for. If you are applying to Osun State University (UNIOSUN) for this admission year, it is important that you know how your screening point/score is calculated.
Unlike some universities that conduct a Post-UTME exam, UNIOSUN often uses a results screening method based on your UTME (JAMB) score and your O’Level results. In this blog post, we will show you howto calculate the screening score and also give you a sample calculation to aid your understanding.
Knowing this is helpful as you can compare your screening score with the last cutoff marks in order to decide if you need to change your course or even your institution.
What is the UNIOSUN Screening Score?
Your screening score is simply the sum of two percentages:
- One from your JAMB score (60%)
- One from your O’Level grades (40%)
This gives a total out of 100%, and the higher your total, the better your chances of being admitted into your course of choice.
Let’s walk through how it’s calculated, step by step.
Step 1: Convert Your JAMB Score
UNIOSUN converts your JAMB score to a percentage using this formula:
JAMB Score × 60 ÷ 400
So, for instance, if you scored 210 in JAMB:
- (210 × 60) ÷ 400 = 31.5%
This means you had 31.5/60 for your JAMB grading, then we add this to the O’level score
Step 2: Convert Your O’Level Grades
Next, we look at your O’Level (WAEC/NECO/NABTEB) results. You’ll select five relevant subjects for the course you applied for, and grade them using this point system:
Grade | Point |
---|---|
A1 | 8 |
B2 | 7 |
B3 | 6 |
C4 | 5 |
C5 | 4 |
C6 | 3 |
D7 | 2 |
E8 | 1 |
F9 | 0 |
Once you’ve added the points for your 5 subjects, divide the total by 8 to get your percentage.
🧪 Example (For Nursing Applicants)
Let’s say you’re applying for Nursing and you choose:
- English – A1 (8 points)
- Maths – B2 (7 points)
- Biology – B3 (6 points)
- Chemistry – C4 (5 points)
- Physics – E8 (1 point)
Your total = 8 + 7 + 6 + 5 + 1 = 27 points
Now divide that by 8: 27 ÷ 8 = 3.375 × 10 = 33.75%
That means your O’Level contributes 33.75% to your total screening score.
Final Screening Score:
Now, add both together:
JAMB (31.5%) + O’Level (33.75%) = 65.25%
That’s your total screening score or aggregate score. You can now compare it with the departmental cut-off for your course.
💡 Important Notes:
- Always use subjects relevant to your course (check the admission brochure).
- The higher your grades, especially in sciences like Biology, Chemistry, and Maths, the better.
- If you have two O’level sittings, calculate by picking relevant grades
- UNIOSUN may also include post-UTME screening, so always check updates on the school portal.
Now that you understand how the UNIOSUN screening score works, you can predict your chances, improve where needed, or even decide whether to go for a change of course.
