5 Things to Do Before Registering for JAMB UTME 2024

As we all know, another admission season is coming, and 2024 JAMB UTME registration was scheduled to start on 15th January 2024. Before registering for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), there are several important things you should do to ensure a smooth and successful registration process. Here are five things to consider before registering for JAMB UTME:

Check the JAMB UTME Registration Requirements

Before registering for JAMB UTME, make sure you have all necessary requirements in place, such as having a valid email address and phone number, NIN and also generate your profile code which will be used for the application when available.

A valid email address (one which you know the password and you can login into) is needed for your JAMB registration, this enables you to get access to the JAMB CAPs profile that allows you to print your admission letter, results slip, and also monitor your admission status. If you do not have an email yet, you can get a free one by visiting gmail.com, we advise you to use Gmail and not Yahoomail due to ease of use. Do not use the email or phone number of someone else to create or access your profile – as an aspiring university student, you should have your own phone number and email address, not using your parents’ own. Although some who had done JAMB before may have their email linked to their JAMB account already, this category of people does not need a new email address.

As for phone number, it will be used in generating the profile code to start the registration process. Wherein, your NIN is needed, if you have not gotten your NIN, kindly visit the nearest NIMC accredited agent or office to get it. For those who have done UTME before, chances are that they will use the same profile code of the previous year to register for 2024 JAMB. The process of getting or retrieving the profile code will be announced by the board when it is time.

Additionally, you should also ensure that you meet the educational qualifications for the program you wish to apply for.

Prepare your Documents and Start Studying

Some of the documents you’ll need as a UTME candidate are your O’level results (WAEC or NECO), if it is available, make sure you take it along to the center. And if you’re for direct entry, you’ll need to take your results along too, for example, JUPEB results.

However, if these results are not available, there’s always an option of “awaiting results”. What’s important is that you upload the results once you have them so that you won’t forget and cause panic later.

If you have not started studying by now or enrolled in a tutorial and you want to get a score of 300 and above in 2024 JAMB, should I use the slang “dey playyyy” for you? Like they always say, early and proper preparation prevents poor performance. Get your books and past questions together and start reading, serious and smart jacking – enroll in a good tutorial and be intentional about your plans, beware of the groups you join, and always remember no one will give you answers in the exam hall. Read like there is no miracle for passing, and pray like you have read nothing. You should also check our article on why students read and still get a low score.

Know the Amount JAMB Registration Costs

Before registering, it is important to know the exact amount to be paid for the registration fee and have a budget for the whole process. At times, it may be difficult to register at once due to the number of people in CBT centers for registration, server issues, or other factors. JAMB UTME registration fee varies annually, so it’s important to confirm the fee for the current year before proceeding with the registration process. For 2024, Registration with mock costs 7700 naira while without mock costs 6200 nairas and DE Registration cost 6200 naira, although prices may vary based on your location or registration center. Also, make sure your eyes are wide open during the registration process to avoid errors.

Also note, JAMB UTME is usually held at various centers across the country, during the registration, you’ll be given the option to choose your preferred exam town, so make sure to select one that is easily accessible to you. Make sure to register early before the locations in your town get filled up, so that you won’t be posted to schools in another far location for the exam.
