Are you considering the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) program at Obafemi Awolowo University for a Bachelor of Nursing Science (BNSC)? Many prospective students have similar questions about admissions, requirements, and what to expect. This post answers the most common questions to help you make an informed decision.
OAU ODL NURSING 2026/2027 SESSION FORM IS AVAILABLE;CLICK HERE FOR DETAILS.
1. Can midwives apply for OAU ODL Nursing?
Yes. Registered midwives are eligible to apply for the program.
2. Will midwives get a degree in Midwifery?
No. The degree awarded is Bachelor of Nursing Science (BNSC). You may also have the opportunity to earn additional certifications such as RN or RPHN, but the primary degree remains BNSC.
3. What are the requirements for admission?
You need a valid NMCN license, or a Notification of Registration from NMCN, or a receipt showing payment for registration. In addition, you must have five credits in your O’level results.
4. How many years is the program?
The program lasts four academic sessions or eight semesters. You will start from 200 level and graduate at 500 level.
5. Will I be able to get RN?
The program leads to BNSC, not RN. However, it may be possible to obtain RN or other licenses during the program. Alternatively, some students enroll in post basic programs if it suits their schedule. Please note that this response is based on available information and does not represent an official statement from the university.
6. How much is the tuition fees?
The tuition is roughly 350,000-380,000 Naira or more per year. This covers two semesters, and payment is made twice a year.
7. I am in final year in school of midwifery, can I apply?
You can only apply once you are licensed. If your license or notification of registration from NMCN will be ready before the screening period, then you are eligible to apply.
8. Do I need to come to the school? I stay far away from Ife.
The program runs in hybrid mode. Most coursework is completed online. However, you will need to visit Ife about two times per semester for practicals and exams.
9. After application, do I get automatic admission?
- No. The admission is a process:
- First, you will take an online exam. You will receive an invitation when it is time. It is recommended to practice NCLEX nursing questions to prepare.
- Second, if you pass the exam, you will be invited for document screening. You must bring all your complete documents, including O’level results and your license or its equivalent for the physical screening session or interview. If everything is in order, you will be accepted into the program. All invitations will be sent by email, so ensure you provide a correct email address during registration.
10. Is this Direct Entry with JAMB?
No. ODL is not the same as Direct Entry with JAMB. The ODL program allows you to work and learn simultaneously. Like Direct Entry, you will be enrolled into 200 level and graduate at 500 level. However, Direct Entry is a full time program that requires a JAMB Direct Entry form, and nurses or midwives can no longer apply for that route. OAU ODL only requires you to obtain the form and complete document screening, and both nurses and midwives are eligible to apply.
11. Is the application open for 2026?
Yes. The application for the 2026/2027 session is now open and is expected to close by June 30th, 2026. Please click here for application details.
