How to Calculate EKSU Screening Aggregate Score

The Ekiti State University (EKSU), is one of the most sought-after institutions in South West Nigeria, owing to the fact that the school has a long admission window and does not write exam for her post UTME, but uses results screening method similar to that of Federal University, Oye Ekiti – both in the same state but the latter is a Federal institution. In this blog post, we’ll explain how the aggregate point for post-UTME is calculated in EKSU.

Ekiti State University uses a screening system of aggregate scores to determine which applicants are eligible for admission. The aggregate score is calculated by adding the applicant’s UTME score (60%) and their O’level grades which take 40% of the admission.

EKSU Minimum UTME Cutoff Mark

The minimum UTME cutoff mark that allows a candidate to apply for EKSU Post UTME is 140.

How to Calculate EKSU Post UTME Aggregate Score

To calculate your aggregate score, you will need to know your UTME score and your O’level grades. Your UTME score is the total number of points you scored in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). Your O’level grades are the grades you received in your West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) or National Examination Council (NECO) exams.

To calculate your UTME score, divide your total UTME score by 400 and multiply by 60. For example, if you scored 280 in the UTME, your UTME point would be 42.

EKSU O’level Grading System

To calculate your O’level grades, convert your 5 relevant WASSCE or NECO grades to the EKSU grading system. The EKSU O’level grading system is as follows:

  • A1 –> 8 marks
  • B2 –> 7 marks
  • B3 –> 6 marks
  • C4 –> 5 marks
  • C5 –> 4 marks
  • C6 –> 3 marks
  • D7 –> 2 marks
  • E8 –> 1 mark
  • F9 –> 0 mark

Once you have your UTME score and your O’level grades, you can calculate your aggregate score by adding the two together. For example, if you had 42 as UTME points and you have A1, B2, B3, and C4 and C6 in your O’level grades, your aggregate score would be 71.

The cutoff score for each course at EKSU is different but a higher aggregate score will give you a higher chance of gaining admission.

Sample EKSU Aggregate Screening Score Calculation

Here is an example of how to calculate EKSU aggregate score:

  • UTME score: 265 >> (265/400) *60 = 39.75 points
  • 5 relevant O’level grades: A1, B2, B3, C4, C6 = 8+7+6+5+3= 29 points
  • Aggregate score: 39.95 + 29 = 68.95

This student would be eligible to apply for any course at EKSU that has an aggregate score of 68.9 or lower.

Please note that this is just an example. The actual score you need to qualify for admission to a course in EKSU will vary depending on the course you are applying for.

How to Know if EKSU has offered you admission.

Once the post-UTME form is released and you applied online on the EKSU website, you’ll be able to print your Post-UTME Screening slip which contains your aggregate score. After that, you’re to keep checking the JAMB CAPs admission portal to know when the school starts to consider you for admission.

Once you’re admitted on JAMB portal, you’ll also be offered admission on the EKSU portal which will then give you the chance to pay the necessary fees and register as a fresher.

Does EKSU Accept Second Choice

Although the school allows candidates to apply for post-UTME screening even if they did’t choose the institution at all, only those who have chosen the school as their first choice will be considered for admission via JAMB CAPs. In essence, EKSU will not offer you admission until you made the school your first choice.
