The Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) Idi Araba, is now accepting applications from suitably qualified candidates for the 2-year ND/HND in Biomedical Engineering for the 2024/2025 academic session. Read to the end to learn more about the programme and how to apply.

Overview of Biomedical Engineering (ND) Program

The Federal School of Biomedical Engineering situated in Lagos University Teaching Hospital, was one of the five (5) Schools of Biomedical Engineering established by the Federal Ministry of Health in 2003 in response to the shortage of adequately trained Biomedical Technicians who can fit into a significant aspect of our healthcare system that is high-technology based; trained technicians who would operate, maintain and repair medical equipment for their optimal performance. With fully accredited National Diploma and interim accredited Higher National Diploma programs in Biomedical Engineering Technology, the institution aim to produce quality Biomedical Engineering Technicians/Technologists for the health care institutions, pharmaceutical industry, medical equipment manufacturers and representatives, and other related industries.

Duration of Program

The duration of the program is 24 months (2 years) after which the student can proceed into another 24 months of HND in Biomedical Engineering.

Admission Requirement for Biomedical Engineering in LUTH

To be eligible for the course, you must possess the following qualifications:

  • A Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) or General Certificate of Education (GCE) or National Examination Council (NECO)/ West African Examination Council (WAEC) certificate, or their equivalent, with a minimum of five (5) credit passes, which includes Mathematics, English Language, Chemistry, Physics and Biology.
  • Additional credit or ordinary pass in any of the following subjects will be an advantage: woodwork, metalwork, Auto-mechanics, Basic Electronics, Basic Electricity and Technical Drawing.
  • National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) results are also accepted by the school for admissions.
  • Applicants must also write the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and obtain a minimum score of 150 and above in any of the combinations of Use of English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and biology as set out in the JAMB brochure.
  • Applicant will be invited for Post UTME examination and screening
  • For HND: In addition to the above, minimum of one year cognate work experience or one year industrial attachment is required.

  • Visit the LUTH Admission Portal
  • Create an account on the portal and make payment for the form through Remita by clicking the Make Payment button, selecting your preferred payment option and supplying requisite information/ Or you may close the confirmation page and go to your email to retrieve the details and return to login and following the steps outlined in the email to make your payment.
  • After successful payment, your payment status in your login page will be updated to PAID. You will then be able to upload any document due as per program requirements.
