The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has provided an explanation for why a candidate’s admission status on the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) may change from “Recommended” to “Not Admitted.” This change can be confusing and alarming for candidates who were previously hopeful, but JAMB has clarified the reason behind it.
According to JAMB, the change occurs when the institution that originally recommended the candidate withdraws its recommendation. The JAMB Registrar explained that this may happen for various reasons known only to the institution. It could be a change in the institution’s position, or it could mean that officials at the institution had to remove the uploaded candidates for one reason or another. The Registrar emphasized that only the institutions can say for sure why a recommendation was withdrawn.
What This Means for Candidates
If your admission status changes from “Recommended” to “Not Admitted,” it does not necessarily mean you did anything wrong. It simply means the institution that initially recommended you for admission has decided to withdraw that recommendation. This can happen for several reasons, including changes in admission policy, failure to meet certain requirements, or other internal decisions at the institution.
Candidates whose admission status has changed are advised to contact their institution’s admissions office for clarification on the specific reason for the change. JAMB has made it clear that the institution involved is in the best position to explain why an earlier recommendation was withdrawn.
What You Should Do
- Contact your institution’s admissions office: Seek clarification on the exact reason why your recommendation was withdrawn.
- Keep monitoring your CAPS profile for updates: Admission processes can change, and new offers may be made in subsequent admission batches.
- Ensure you meet all admission requirements: Confirm you meet all specific criteria for your chosen institution and programme, including uploading your O’Level results to JAMB and meeting the required cut-off marks.
- Stay informed through official channels: Follow official JAMB announcements and your institution’s communication channels for accurate, verified information.
