Difference Between JAMB Profile Code and JAMB E-PIN

I have written before about the JAMB Registration Process and Dates separately, but I still get questions every day, especially from candidates who have written JAMB before. So, I decided to put everything together in one clear post to explain the difference once and for all.

Please read carefully, and share with anyone who might find it helpful.

What is a JAMB Profile Code?

Your JAMB Profile Code is your personal identification number with JAMB. Think of it like your phone number. It belongs to you alone and identifies you on JAMB’s system.

How to get it:
To generate your Profile Code, simply send an SMS in this format:
NIN followed by a space, then your 11-digit NIN
to 55019 or 66019.

Example:
NIN 34123456789

Important things to note:
You do NOT pay any money to get a Profile Code.
It will be sent to you via SMS, although you will be charged 50 naira.
It is PERMANENT.

That means if you have written JAMB before and already generated a Profile Code, do NOT generate another one. You will continue using the same Profile Code for all future JAMB registrations.

What is a JAMB E-PIN?

Your JAMB E-PIN is what allows you to actually register for JAMB. If the Profile Code is like your phone number, then the E-PIN is like the airtime you must buy before you can make calls.

Without an E-PIN:
You cannot register
You cannot do biometrics
You cannot choose your course or institution

Q: Is JAMB Profile Code the same as JAMB E-PIN?
A: No, they are completely different.

Q: Can I use last year’s JAMB E-PIN for this year?
A: No. Every year requires a new E-PIN.

Q: Is JAMB E-PIN free like the Profile Code?
A: No. The E-PIN must be purchased.

Q: Do I need to pay for JAMB registration after buying e-PIN?
A: No. Once you buy e-PIN, you will not pay another money to CBT center for JAMB registration.
