Choosing to become a nurse is a noble and rewarding decision. If you are aiming to start your nursing journey in 2026, navigating the admission process for Nigerian schools can feel overwhelming. This guide is here to simplify everything for you, providing a clear, step-by-step path to securing your spot.
A crucial update for 2026: All Colleges of Nursing Science in Nigeria now require the JAMB UTME, just like universities always have. This means every nursing aspirant must go through the national JAMB process.

Step 1: Create Your JAMB Profile Code
Your journey officially begins here. Think of your JAMB Profile Code as your unique student ID for all JAMB-related activities. It is permanent and tied to your National Identification Number (NIN).
How to get it:
- Ensure you have your 11-digit NIN.
- Send an SMS in this format:
NIN [space] Your 11-digit NINto either 55019 or 66019.
Example:NIN 00123456789 - You will receive your 10-character Profile Code via SMS. There is no charge for this.
Important: If you have created a JAMB profile before, do not create a new one. Use your existing profile code.
Step 2: Purchase Your JAMB E-PIN
Your Profile Code identifies you, but the E-PIN is your key to register. You must purchase a new E-PIN for the 2026 UTME. You can buy it from authorized banks, JAMB-accredited centers, or send us a message to get it for you.
Nursing-Specific Note: When purchasing, ensure you select the correct subject combination for Nursing Science, which typically includes English, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
Step 3: Register at an Accredited CBT Centre
With your Profile Code and E-PIN ready, visit an accredited JAMB Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre to complete your registration. Do not attempt to register online alone; the centre will capture your biometrics (fingerprints and photograph) and help you finalize the process.
At the centre, you will:
- Complete your personal details.
- Select “Nursing/Nursing Science” as your course of study.
- Choose your preferred institution(s). You can select a College of Nursing and a University as your first and second choices.
Step 4: Prepare Diligently for the UTME Exam
Your JAMB score is critical. Dedicate time to study the four core subjects. Utilize the official JAMB syllabus, past questions, and trusted textbooks. Consider forming a study group or using online tutorials tailored for Nursing science candidates.
Step 5: Sit for the JAMB UTME Exam
On your scheduled exam date, arrive early at your CBT centre with your photo slip and a valid ID. Read questions carefully during the exam and manage your time wisely.
Step 6: Check Your UTME Result & Cut-Off Mark
Results are usually released a few weeks after the exam. Check yours on the official JAMB portal. Each school sets its own departmental cut-off mark for Nursing, which is often significantly higher than the general JAMB pass mark. Research your chosen school’s previous year cut-offs to gauge your standing. Colleges of Nursing are around 180-200, while universities may be way higher.
Step 7: Apply for Your Schoolโs Post-UTME Screening
Scoring above the cut-off mark means you qualify for the next stage. This is non-negotiable.
- Monitor your chosen institutionโs website for the Post-UTME form announcement.
- Pay for and complete the screening form when it opens.
- The screening may involve another written exam, an oral interview, or both. Prepare thoroughly, as this score is often combined with your JAMB score to determine final admission.
Step 8: Wait for the Admission List
After the Post-UTME, the school will compile a merit list. Admission lists are published on school portals and notice boards. Keep checking diligently. If offered admission, you will receive an official admission letter.
Step 9: Accept Your Admission & Resume Studies
Congratulations! Once admitted:
- Accept the offer on the JAMB CAPS portal.
- Pay your acceptance and school fees.
- Complete other registration requirements (medical tests, submission of credentials).
- Prepare for resumption and begin your journey to becoming a nurse!
Final Tips for Success
- Start Early: Begin your preparations now. The earlier you start studying, the better.
- Verify Information: Always confirm details like cut-off marks and form sales dates directly from your chosen institution’s official website or admissions office.
- Stay Focused: The process is a marathon, not a sprint. Stay disciplined, follow the steps, and keep your goal in sight.
We wish you the very best as you take these important steps toward a fulfilling career in nursing. Your commitment to caring for others starts with this commitment to your own future.
