Why “Admission in Progress” (AIP) Does Not Change to “Congratulations” Immediately

Seeing AIP on your JAMB CAPS means you have passed your school’s internal screening, and your name has been officially recommended to JAMB. However, this is not yet the final offer.

The delay, which can last from a few hours to several weeks, is due to a mandatory and thorough audit period where JAMB’s Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) verifies every recommendation.

The Key Reason for the Wait

The AIP status means your file is in JAMB’s queue for final compliance checks. This process takes time because JAMB must ensure everything is accurate and fair:

• O’Level Verification: JAMB checks that your uploaded results perfectly match the subject and grade requirements for your course.

• Quota Compliance: The system confirms that your school has not exceeded its approved limits for merit or catchment area admissions.

The speed of this process varies. It is usually slower during early batches when there is high volume and often faster towards the end of the admission cycle.

Other Important Status Changes on CAPS

Transfer Approval

Meaning: Your school wants to switch you to a different course because of space or score differences.

Next Step: You must accept or reject the offer.

After accepting: It does not change instantly to AIP.

 Your file goes back into JAMB’s queue for another round of audit under the new course.

AIP Changes to “Not Admitted”

This happens when JAMB rejects the recommendation, usually because of a major O’Level result issue or failure to act on a transfer approval on time. This does not always happen. Very rare, but it can happen. 

Change from “Not Admitted” → AIP

This is a positive reversal. It means your university has corrected an error (such as a data issue) and resubmitted your name for another review.

Change from AIP → “Congratulations”

This is the final and successful outcome.

JAMB’s audit is complete, all checks are cleared, and you can now accept your provisional admission to make it official.

In summary: AIP is a waiting area

The waiting period depends entirely on JAMB’s internal checks, and patience is the only requirement before your “Congratulations” finally appears.
